DJ A-Dog presents:2 Years Ago (Various Artists)

Various Artists - 2 Years Ago Hosted by DJ A-D0G. Continuing with the chat about what i consider hip hop, and the new music that has taken it's name sometime that i think should be labeled different.Based on lyrics, content, beats etc. Sharing with Friends For A-Dog this is another example of what i grew up listening to and felt is worthy of carrying that name. Here's a clean mix of some favorites of mine..."2 years ago,a friend of mine...asked me to say some MC rhymes. So i said this rhyme, that i had to say,the rhyme was def,and it went this way...jay chopped the record down to the bone..." -RUN DMC Get familiar...it's a good time! And there's a ton of music to listen to once you get diggin'! happy Saturday! peace, love & hip hop! A_ cover: Steez (classics)

DJ A-Dog x Living Proof Mag presents: Tru Skool (Various Artists)

Friends For A-Dog I replied to a comment that my dude Luis Calderin posted as #oldmanning on the hip hop nowadays... i replied w/plenty to say since i feel the same way. Wanted 2 share what i classify as hip hop and what we grew up on,as well as some of the groups since i feel i live in this time still. Big shouts to NG at [ 2 one 5 ] Creative & Living Proof for putting this out together to show example of what we feel True Skool is. Mixed & blended by DJ A-D0G. Here's my reply to his comment, and i have some other throwback mixes to share also...stay tuned: *hip hop opinion* Luis Calderin I can agree...that's why when I DJ I play music. They should call what I think u r speaking of rap or come up with a new name since it is a new sound. Hop hop should be the same, and can't be changed...the days of Krs-1,A Tribe called quest,De la soul,Run dmc,Public enemy etc....the list of mine goes on that I can name and file as hip hop in my definition. Lyrics that I could relate to even tho I wasn't from NYC or some big city...we might just need to come up with a new genre name for what they call hip hop...the new 'music' has nothing motivating to talk about, undanceable beats, lower tempos that u could almost speak over and not consider rhyming...big budgets to make the music tho,as well as backing by sponsors! I miss the sampling of rare beats and grooves which made me learn about funk and soul groups that I have never heard of...I could go on and on,maybe we should...new music seminar so we can all learn old and new. Way to open up the same but great topic! #oldmanning Peace A_

Peace and thanks to all @friendsforadog for all the love and support! Holdin' it down in Boston/Cambridge MA post stem cell/bone marrow transplant! What a miracle it was to have odds of 1 & 20 million, and a few months later have a donor that came thru for me and went the whole way!! So now I'm feeling good with my new cells/bone marrow, but there is a lot of tricky meds in and out of the hospital the first few weeks after my procedure to make sure all stays well. But we will be back shortly Josie Furchgott Sourdiffe and I to participate in our favorite Burlington activities like the farmers/artist market, the waterfront, bike path, intervale etc. I couldn't have done this without the help and support from all of you! I am truly blessed to have a community and friends local and far in my corner to help me fight! So see y'all soon, and when I do I'm gonna have to be a lil less physical with everyone for awhile. Much love! A_ photo:Asa Sourdiffe

Be The Match (A-Dog Remix) Extended 2013

Be The Match (A-Dog Remix) Extended 2013 from DJ A_DOG on Vimeo.

For people with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma or other diseases, a cure exists. Be The Match® connects patients with their donor match for a life-saving marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant. This recent campaign is to Help Black patients fight leukemia & sickle cell. There are many ways to show your support and spread the word about the need for more African American marrow donors. KEVIN WESTON-For Weston, a newlywed and father, time is critical. Weston has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia and urgently needs a marrow donor. The 44-year-old award-winning journalist from the San Francisco Bay area is using his personal search for a marrow donor to draw attention to the need for more African Americans to join Be The Match Registry®; the nation’s listing of volunteer marrow donors. Weston needs one match, but hopes that among the 1,000 African Americans he hopes to recruit there will be matches for many other patients.A-DOG aka ANDY WILLIAMS-This Vermont-based turntablist who has toured with hip-hop greats like Nas and Snoop Dogg is now fighting for his life against acute myeloid leukemia (AML). His African American and Filipino heritage make his search for a donor particularly challenging. Only 4 percent of the registry is mixed-raced, creating a critical need for more diverse donors.CAROL MARTIN-HICKS-As a health specialist, Martin-Hicks has helped patients overcome illness and ailments. But now the 47-year-old from South Carolina is hoping someone will step up and save her life. After overcoming breast cancer, she’s now fighting leukemia and her only hope for a cure is a marrow transplant. I took the info, facts & some graphics from MARROW.ORG & BE THE MATCH and remixed them around and added a beat of mine to assist the campaign to get more African Americans on the registry. Thanks to all who took a few minutes to take look and get educated on what myself and thousands of others are going through. much love to all! Video Remix & Music: Andy Williams aka DJ A-Dog

7 Days Soundbites 'It's A-Dog Week' 2/6/13

It's A-Dog Week! Soundbites BY DAN BOLLES [02.06.13] It is A-Dog Week here in the Queen City. Well, unofficially, at least. Sadly, I’m told I don’t have the power to officially designate special, citywide holidays — see my ill-fated attempts at “Ed Bemis Day,” “Trey Look-alike Week” and “Dan Bolles Appreciation Month.” I’m told it has something to do with my not being the mayor. Well played, Miro. Anyway, if I did wield such power, my first act would be to designate the upcoming seven days as A-Dog Week, since we’ll have not one, not two, but three blowout bashes raising money to help the estimable local DJ — aka Andy Williams — offset the cost of his ongoing treatment for leukemia. The first such benefit is this Wednesday, February 6, at Nectar’s and features Williams’ old hip-hop group, Tha VT Union, reuniting for their first show since 2010 — see last week’s Soundbites for the full story. Bennie number two is the following night, Thursday, February 7, at Red Square, where A-Dog has been a fixture since … well, as long as I can remember. I’ve been sneaking into that joint since I was, like, 19, so let’s just say it’s been a while. (Note from the 7D legal team: Sorry! Please don’t arrest Dan.) The Red Square show will feature a smorgasbord of local DJ talent including Cre8, Mashtodon, Kata & Con Yay, Stavros, Dee Jay Baron, Robbie J, Bonjour-Hi!’s Vidi Vici, Dakota, Mario and the godfather of BTV house DJs, Craig Mitchell. Completing the Fitid hat trick, Higher Ground will host a massive blowout on Monday, February 11, with DJs spinning in both rooms, including Baron, Vidi Vici and Cousin Dave in the Showcase Lounge. Meanwhile, in the Ballroom, highlights include Lazerdisk Party Sex, Nexus Artist’s Chris Pattison and another reunion of local hip-hop royalty, Eye Oh You, which featured post-Belizbeha Fattie B and Konflik on the mics and A-Dog on the ones and twos, and was an evolutionary precursor to the aforementioned VT Union. Oh, yeah, the show also features the legendary DJ Z-Trip, who is among the most revered live-performance DJs on the planet and an incomparable producer — just ask Public Enemy, who tabbed him on their last record. He’s also a personal friend of A-Dog, dating back to their days rocking parties for Burton and Gravis. To paraphrase Ron Burgundy, he’s kind of a big deal. I think most of us expected an exceptional outpouring of support for A-Dog, who is not only one of the region’s finest turntablist but one of the friendliest and most likable people you could ever meet. But even I didn’t anticipate the community rallying around him to this degree. It’s been astonishing. The Higher Ground show will be at least the fifth major benefit in Williams’ honor since his diagnosis in December. And each has been very successful. I don’t see that trend changing this week. I had the chance to chat with Williams over the weekend. We spoke by phone — his immune system is still recovering from two rounds of chemotherapy, so visitors are kept at a minimum to decrease the risk of infection. Anyone who has experienced chemotherapy or watched a loved one go through it knows how debilitating it can be. And it can take weeks, or months, to recover even a fraction of that lost energy. But chatting with Andy, I was struck by how normal he seemed. During our 20-minute conversation, I never once got the sense that I was speaking to a gravely ill man. Maybe a little bored — hospitals don’t offer much in the way of entertainment, though he has been making remixes on his laptop, enlightening younger nurses on the finer points of A Tribe Called Quest and catching up on TV. But not sick. He sounded like his usual, upbeat self. Perhaps it’s because Andy is hopefully on the back nine with his in-patient treatment and is physically recovering. But — at the risk of being maudlin — I think a lot of it has to do with the support the local music community has sent his way. It’s a cliché that the power of positive thinking can affect healing. But as someone who has recently seen a family member battle cancer (which has, against very long odds, gone into remission), I can tell you it’s absolutely true. This stuff matters. Williams declined to answer questions about his prognosis and when he might begin outpatient treatment, mostly because he doesn’t really know and he doesn’t want to give false hope. But he did say he’s deeply moved by the community support, and that he hadn’t quite realized how many lives he has touched. “The support has been unbelievable,” said Williams. “But I had a feeling Burlington would be there for me. It always has been.”

A-Dog x Full Sail x Visionary 16mm Crew

A-DOG x Full Sail (Visionary 16mm Crew) from DJ A_DOG on Vimeo.

It was in the works for me to go Full Sail University in Florida sometime in 2012 to speak about inspiration on how i make my mix tapes and remixes. It was set up thru a friend of mine (Nate Hayward) who was giving those mixes to Bekha Lee (video set design instructor) at Full Sail. Long story short...when Bekha's students start working on set designs everyday the are asked what they choose to listen to...7 outta 10 times (her words) they want to listen to a mix of mine while they work! Which is why we were trying to make it happen for me to go down there, speak a bit and maybe dj for them at the school or maybe get a club gig. So things were not able to happen in 2012 and of course i have quite the speed bump to get over for the moment...which is happening gracefully! But the crew at Full Sail (Visionary 16mm Crew) got wind of my situation and sent me a T-shirt signed by the whole class and this video they made for me. Talk about uplifting! I inspired them to work...they inspire me to get better and keep the music coming to them! It's all 360. Just really wanted to share this with everyone. Thanks you to (Visionary 16mm Crew) and Bekhah Lee at Full Sail University! I will be down there soon to rock with y'all...much love! Also have to shoutout BURTON SNOWBOARDS for everything they have done and are doing for this show also. I could go on for days thanking everyone for their help and support, but that would be it's own blog...lol I am blessed to have friends and a community like the one i have. one love! I'll be back on the block soon! DJ A-Dog
There are few DJs that work as hard as Zach Sciacca aka Z‑Trip. On the road or in the studio. In front of thousands of fans or alone on the side of a mountain, Zach is always working at his craft and trying to be the best he can be. His passion is music, no matter what the style. Always trying to innovate and find new ways of blending tracks and constructing sets. It's this passion and dedication that has led him to become one of the worlds premier DJs. "I'm constantly living on no sleep. I'm constantly living on deadlines. I'm also constantly trying to outdo my shows and myself, get better and pay attention to what's coming in. There's a lot of processing. "I wake up every morning ready to go on some, whats next? What can I do? How can I learn? How can I absorb?" Rather than on stage, in the heat of the moment, it's the time away from the spotlight where Z‑Trip finds his inspiration. SERATO ICON

The Leukemia Challenge...

Andy (DJ A-Dog) was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on December 19, 2012. Because of his cytogenetics, he must have a bone marrow transplant in order to be cured, making it a life saving procedure for Andy. A global registry run by Be The Match connects patients with their donor match for a bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant. I urge you all to please consider becoming part of the Be The Match donor database and spreading the word to everyone you know. Even if you aren't a match for Andy you could save someone elses life! (See link below) Because of Andy's ethnicity (Filipino/African Amercian) he is facing some unique challenges in finding a match, as are other people who are of mixed race. Currenty, only 4% of registered donors are of mixed race, creating an urgent need for these donors. Markers used in finding a match are inherited which means patients are more likely to match someone from their own ancestry. Adding more donors from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to the Be The Match Registry increases the likelihood that all patients will find the match they need. Registering is an easy & painless process of requesting a free cheek swab kit from Be The Match. You will then be in the global registry for patients that are in need, including Andy. About 1 in 540 people who join will become a bone marrow donor. With modern technology dontaing bone marrow is free, quick and easy. Please follow this link to join the registry and give hope to people like Andy all over the world. MARROW.ORG No matter what your ethnicity or background please consider joining the bone marrow registry, the more people that join the better the chance that Andy will find a match and be cured! Please register and spread the word as quickly as possible - this is a time sensitive process. Thanks for your continual support, Josie (Andy's partner) Please contact me with any questions at LOVE 4 A.DOG Or drop by FriendsForADog to keep up on his situation and recovery.
